Softball Starts Seven Game Road Trip Against Presbyterian

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern softball team (11-12, 4-2) starts a seven game road swing in Clinton, S.C. The Eagles will play a doubleheader against Presbyterian Tuesday at 2 p.m. Georgia Southern will look to pull above .500 for the first time since defeating Oakland 11-8 back on February 22nd.
Georgia Southern bounced back from a series loss to the College of Charleston and swept Appalachian State at home this weekend.
Brianna Streetmon (Winder, Ga.) picked up two more wins this weekend and improved her record to 5-4. She also narrowly missed a no-hitter when Katie Boyd drilled a triple past the shortstop in the sixth inning of Sunday's series finale.
Megen Smith (Springfield, Ga.) has been solid at the plate in Southern Conference play, batting .421 with a homer and two RBIs. She also added one of her best performances of the season, shutting out the Mountaineers in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) has been hot of late and is riding a seven game hit streak which started against Jacksonville (March 3rd). She is hitting .409 with a home run and two RBIs during the streak.
Georgia Southern faced Presbyterian last season in the first-ever match up of the two schools. The Eagles swept the series winning 3-0 and 3-2. Smith earned her seventh win of the season in game two of last season's doubleheader. She pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on six hits.
The Blue Hose had four games canceled this weekend and have not played since Wednesday against Appalachian State. The Mountaineers swept the midweek series winning 8-5 and 13-3 Wednesday.
Kayla Handy leads the way at the plate for Presbyterian. The Sophomore shortstop leads the team with a .333 batting average, hitting well above the team average of .242.
The Blue Hose pitching staff has been solid and sports a 3.41 team ERA. Leslie Hensley leads the team with a 6-3 record and a 2.74 ERA.
Softball will continue conference this weekend with three games against Western Carolina.
