Eagles in First Place at Kaua'i Collegiate Cup After Two Rounds

Lihue, Kaua’i, Hawai’i ? After two rounds of completion played on Friday (March 13), the Georgia Southern men’s golf team has a three stroke lead over second-place East Tennessee State to claim first place with a team-total 573 at the Kaua’i Collegiate Cup. The Eagles had three players in the top seven individually after two rounds at the Wailua Golf Course led by sophomore Logan Blondell who holds a one stroke lead in first place over Seamus Power of ETSU.
Blondell shot a blistering five-under-par 139 on the 6,981, par-72 course to place first. Drew Lethem carded a 143 after 36 holes to tie for fourth place as Spencer Fulford, competing on an individual basis, stands in seventh place with a 144. Joe Monte places 13th with a 147 while Ryan LeFevre and Jordan Johnstun are both tied for 22nd with a two-round score of 149.
Only four athletes recorded sub-par opening rounds, three of those were Eagles. Blondell opened the day carding a 2-under-par 70 first round off three birdies, 14 pars and just one bogey only to be followed with a second round 3-under-par 69. Blondells’ season-low 139 (-5) first two rounds puts him on top of the leader board heading into Saturday’s final round.
Lethem and Monte shot equal 71s to open the day to round out the three Eagles that broke par in the opening round, but Lethem shot an even-par 72 second round while Monte followed with a four-over 76 to put him in 13th. Lethem’s 143 placed him in a three-way tie for fourth.
Competing on an individual basis, Fulford started the day with a one-over par 73 first round to shoot a one-under par second round 71. Fulford stands in sole possession of seventh place with a two round total of even-par 144.
Rounding out the Eagles’ lineup were seniors LeFevre and Johnstun who tallied identical 149s after two rounds, tying them for 22nd. LeFevre rebounded from an opening round five-over par 77 with a second round even-par 72, while Johnstun opened with an even-par, but carded a 77 second round.
The tournament concludes tomorrow (Saturday) with the final 18 of the 54-hole event. Play begins at 7:30 a.m. (Hawai’i Time).
