Dennis Dove

Following his professional playing career, former Georgia Southern standout Dennis Dove joined head coach Rodney Hennon's coaching staff in 2009. Dove will serve as a volunteer assistant coach working with the pitching staff.
A three-year letterwinner from 2001-03, Dove left following his junior year when he was drafted in the third round (95th overall pick) by the St. Louis Cardinals.
He spent the 2003 season in short-season New Jersey and had to sit out the 2004 campaign following an injury. In 2005 he returned to the Cardinals and pitched for the Class A Quad Cities and Palm Beach squads. The following year he began at Palm Beach before getting called up to Double-A Springfield.
During the 2007 campaign Dove began in Triple-A Memphis putting up some impressive numbers. On April 30, 2007, Dove got the call to the majors and spent a week with the parent club. In three games he pitched three innings, giving up five runs on five hits. Dove would finish the 2007 season in Memphis.
He worked in the private business sector before enrolling at Georgia Southern to finish his degree requirements. Dove is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education.
While at Georgia Southern, Dove earned All-Southern Conference honors his junior year. He was also named SoCon 'Pitcher of the Week' in May 2002. During his three-year career, Dove recorded 290 strikeouts, still ranking him fourth on the all-time Georgia Southern list. He fanned 119 batters during his All-SoCon junior season, tying him for ninth place on the season 'Top 10' list.
In his career, the Ocilla, Ga., native went 22-9 with a 3.97 career ERA. Dove logged 256 innings and posted three consecutive years of impressive opponent batting averages: .237 in 2003; .226 in 2002; and .236 in 2001. He helped the Eagles make consecutive NCAA Regional appearances in 2001-02.
Dove and his wife Emily were married in December 2008.
