Women's Soccer Edged by Elon

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern women's soccer team (0-10-0, 0-3-0) out shot Elon 10-7 but was edged 1-0. The match was the fourth decided by one goal this season.
Chelsea Kephart (Cumming, Ga.) led the offense with three shots.
The Phoenix scored the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute. Brittany Hallberg notched her first of the season off a throw-in pass from Molly Calpin.
The Eagles controlled the ball in the early going. Candace Marshall (Bridgewater, Mass.) crossed the ball to Jenny Anderson (Birmingham, Ala.) for a nice chance in the 12th minute.
Elon recorded its first shot on goal in the 11th minute with a high shot that Lauren Santos (Berwyn, Ill.) knocked away for the save. Georgia Southern played solid defense and kept the Phoenix scoreless in the first half.
The Eagles kept on the attack after the shot on goal and took two corner kicks in the 13th minute.
Minutes later Michelle Carlson (Melbourne, Fla.) attempted to lob a pass over Elon's defense to an open attacker, but the ball was headed away.
Kephart took her first shot in the 15th minute off a cross from Marshall. Kephart launched a one timer but missed right of the net. Kephart took a second shot in the 25th minute, missing wide of the net.
Both teams exchanged shots in the 28th and 29th minutes. Molly Calpin took a shot for Elon in the 28th minute, missing high of the net. Morgan Springer (Mandeville, Ga.) took a shot in the 29th minute, missing to the left of the net.
Georgia Southern controlled the ball at the end of the half and took two corner kicks in the 41st minute. Kephart added a shot in the 42nd minute that was blocked by the Phoenix.
Elon started the second half with a shot on goal by Calpin that forced a save by Santos.
Carlson responded with a shot that missed wide of the net in the 47th minute.
The Phoenix scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 53rd minute. Brittany Hallberg notched her first of the season off a throw-in pass from Calpin.
Holly Dyer (Auburn, Ga.) kept the Eagles on the attack with a shot in the 70th minute. Anderson took a high arcing shot over the net in the 78th minute.
Danae Kaimuloa (Escondido, Calif.) and Anderson took shots in the 80th minute. Kaimuloa had her shot blocked by Elon's defense, and Anderson missed wide of the net.
Sara Oland (Evans, Ga.) took Georgia Southern's final shot in the 83rd minute and missed wide.
The Eagles continue their three-game homestand Sunday with 2 p.m. match against UNC Greensboro.
