STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern women's soccer team will travel to the state of North Carolina to face UNC Greensboro and Elon this weekend.
The Lady Eagles are 4-8-3 (2-5-1) after losing to Western Carolina and Appalachian State last weekend.
Georgia Southern will face a tough task Friday in UNC Greensboro who is 12-4-1 (7-0-1) on the season and currently resides in first place in the conference. The Lady Eagles will face the Spartans Friday at 7 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.
UNC Greensboro currently leads the conference in points, goals and assists. The Spartans are playing good defense as well. They rank fourth in goals against average and are only giving up about a goal a match this season. The Spartans have also recorded seven shutouts.
UNC Greensboro leads the all-time series with a record of 9-3 including five straight wins. The Spartans defeated the Lady Eagles 3-0 last season.
Georgia Southern will rely on Ashley Toussaint (Warner Robins, Ga.) who leads the conference in points, goals and shots per game. She has already set a new career high in goals scored and now ranks fifth all-time for goals scored in a Georgia Southern season.
Lauren Santos (Berwyn, Ill.) and the Lady Eagles' defense will be tasked with stopping the vaunted Spartan offense. Santos ranks ninth in save percentage and third in saves per games.
The Lady Eagles will travel to Elon, N.C. after the UNC Greensboro match to face off with the Elon Phoenix on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Elon is 7-6-2 (3-4-1) after splitting last weekend's conference slate. The Phoenix lost to Furman 1-0 on Friday and then rebounded to defeat Wofford 1-0 in overtime on Sunday.
Elon's offense ranks seventh in points, goals and sixth in assists. Molly Calpin leads the Phoenix's attack with six goals scored this season.
Their defense has allowed almost a goal and a half per match this season. Sydney Little is the Elon's primary goalkeeper and ranks 10th in save percentage.
The Elon series is a short one with the Phoenix holding the all-time mark with a record of 4-2. In last season's match Elon scored a second half goal to win 1-0 over the Lady Eagles.
