Women's Soccer Will Face Western Carolina and Appalachian State this Weekend

Statesboro, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Women’s Soccer team will face off with Western Carolina and Appalachian State this weekend at Eagle Field.

The Lady Eagles will honor their seniors before the Appalachian State match on Sunday.

 

Georgia Southern is 4-6-3 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play this season. The Lady Eagles are 1-3-2 at home this year.

 

Georgia Southern ranks fourth as a team in goals, assists and points in the conference.

 

The Lady Eagles have committed the second fewest offside penalties in the SoCon.

 

Ashley Toussaint (Warner Robins, Ga.) leads the conference in points and goals. She also ranks sixth in assists. Toussaint ranks second in shots, points and goals in conference matches.

 

Danae Kaimuloa (Escondido, Calif.) ranks fourth in conference goals scored and Lauren Santos (Berwyn, Ill.) ranks third in saves made in the conference.

 

Western Carolina (8-6-0) is currently tied for second place in the SoCon with a 5-1-0 record.

 

The Catamounts lost to UNC Greensboro 2-0 last Friday and defeated Elon 2-1 in overtime Sunday.

 

These two schools have faced off 11 times in the past and Western Carolina leads the all-time series with a record 6-3-2. Last season’s match ended in a 1-1 tie.

 

Shanna Schmoker is currently tied for fifth place in goals scored in conference matches.

 

Caitlin Williams ranks fifth in save percentage in the SoCon.

 

The Western Carolina match is set for Friday at 4 p.m. at Eagle Field.

 

Appalachian State (5-6-2) is currently 10th in the SoCon standings with a 1-4-1 record.

 

In their most recent matches the Mountaineers lost 3-2 to Elon last Friday and 2-0 UNC Greensboro last Sunday.

 

Appalachian State ranks 10th in points, goals and assists in the conference.

 

Casey Cleary leads the Mountaineer attack and ranks 10th in goals per game in the conference. She has scored four goals this season. Cleary also has dished out four assists which is good enough for sixth in the conference.

 

The probable starter in net for Appalachian State is Caroline Clarke. She ranks fifth in goals against average.

 

Georiga Southern holds a 12-7-1 advantage in the all-time series, but has lost the last five matches. The five match winning streak ties the series record. The Lady Eagles won five straight matches two different times. The Lady Eagles lost 2-1 in last season's match. 

 

The Appalachian State match is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. at Eagle Field.
