BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ? The Georgia Southern men's golf team wrapped up day one of competition at the Jerry Pate National Invitational, Monday evening, carding a 16-over 584 in 36 holes at the par-71, 6,958-yard Old Overton Country Club.
Freshman Logan Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.) carded a team-low 2-over 144 and is tied for 37th place. Junior Ryan Zabroske (Alpharetta, Ga.) follows one stroke behind with a 3-over 145 sitting tied for 42nd place. Shooting a team-low 71 in the second round, along with Blondell, was junior Jordan Johnstun (Evans, Ga.) who sits in 50th place, shooting a 6-over 148.
Senior Chris Smith (Alpharetta, Ga.) trails one stoke behind with a 7-over 149, while teammate Ryan LeFevre (Boca Raton, Fla.) follows with an 8-over 150.
Leading the pack of 12 schools is host and No. 4-ranked Alabama with a 30-under 538. Six strokes behind is UNLV at 24-under 544, while UAB follows with a 23-under 545.
Alabama's Mark Harrell holds a one-stroke individual lead at 12-under 130.
Each of the Eagles improved upon their first round scores and will finish the third and final round Tuesday morning with tee time beginning at 8 a.m.
