App. State Edges Women's Soccer, 2-1

BOONE, N.C. ? Georgia Southern’s Jenny Anderson scored the game-tying goal in the first half, but Appalachian State moved ahead in the second half to take a 2-1 Southern Conference win, Sunday (Oct. 21) at the ASU Soccer Stadium.
Georgia Southern falls to 2-11-2 overall with a 1-5-2 SoCon record. With the win, the Mountaineers improve to 9-3-3 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play.
Sparked by a free kick in the 12th minute, the Mountaineers scored first off the foot of Casey Cleary for her eighth goal of the season.
In the 31st minute, freshman Jenny Anderson (Birmingham,Ala.) evened up the score with her third goal of the year when she crossed a shot toward the far side of the cage.
Both teams went into the locker room tied 1-1. Appalachian State led the Eagles 8-4 in first-half shots while the Eagles produced a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The game remained at a deadlock for a large part of the second half until Mountaineer Jennifer MacNeill snapped the tie with a shot from 20 yards out, claiming the day’s game-winner.
The Eagles tried to even up the score but were able to fire only one shot for the remainder of the match as the Mountaineers clinched their third consecutive win.
Sophomore Lauren Santos (Berwyn,Ill.) made five saves in a full day in the goal, while Emma White stopped one GSU shot.
The Mountaineers commanded a 18-6 lead in shots, while the Eagles held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
GeorgiaSouthern will return home to Eagle Field, Thursday (Oct. 25) as they play their final home game of the season versus Wofford. The Southern Conference match is slated for 4 p.m.
