Women's Soccer to Entertain Western Carolina, Friday

STATESBORO, Ga. ? TheGeorgia Southern women’s soccer team will continue its Southern Conference slate, Friday (Oct. 19), as it hostsWestern Carolina. The match is set for 3 p.m. at Eagle Field.
GeorgiaSouthern (2-10-1, 1-4-1) is returning home after falling to Elon (Oct. 14) by a narrow 1-0 decision. Western Carolina(8-7-0, 3-3-0) comes to Statesboro after defeating the Chattanooga Mocs, 6-1. The six goals were the most the Catamounts have scored in a game since their SoCon match against The Citadel in 2004 (Oct. 14).
Both teams have met on eight occasions, withWestern Carolinaclaiming a 6-3-1 series record. The last time the two teams met was in 2006 atWestern Carolina, and the Eagles defeated the Catamounts 3-2 in overtime. The year prior,GeorgiaSouthern fell 2-0 in Statesboro.
Fourth-year head coach Ashley Hart’s Eagles are led on offense by Ashley Toussaint (Warner Robins, Ga.) with eight points and four goals. Holli Finneren (Lake Orion,Mich.) follows with five points, including two goals and an assist.
Western Carolinais coached by Tammy DeCesare. Leading the Catamounts’ offense is Lauren Atkinson with eight points including four assists, and two goals. She is followed by Shannon Fowkes who has seven points, three goals, and an assist.
GeorgiaSouthern will hit the road to face SoCon opponent Appalachian State, Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at ASU Soccer Stadium. Western Carolinawill head home to face Davidson on Sunday afternoon for their final regular-season game at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
