Connor Owings

Connor Owings joined the Georgia Southern baseball coaching staff as an assistant coach in July 2026, where he oversees the Eagles' hitters while assisting with recruiting, player development and the program's day-to-day operations.
Owings arrived in Statesboro after serving as the Assistant Director of Player Development and Recruiting at Coastal Carolina. During his time on staff, the Chanticleers advanced to the 2025 Men's College World Series final and returned to the NCAA postseason in 2026 with an appearance in the Tallahassee Regional.
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Owings enjoyed one of the most accomplished playing careers in Coastal Carolina history. A three-time All-Big South selection from 2014-16, he started every game during his collegiate career and helped lead the Chanticleers to the program's first NCAA National Championship in 2016.
As a junior, Owings earned Big South Player of the Year honors after batting .352 with 16 home runs and 57 RBIs. His standout season also garnered First-Team All-America recognition from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), along with First-Team ABCA All-Region honors. He was also a finalist for the Greg Olson Award and earned additional All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball and D1Baseball.
Following his collegiate career, Owings was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 34th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft. His professional career has spanned nearly a decade and taken him across the United States, Australia, Latin America and the Caribbean. Most recently, he competed with Ponce in the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League and Margarita in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.
According to Baseball-Reference, Owings has appeared in 842 professional games, compiling 814 hits, 118 doubles, 81 home runs and 480 runs scored while batting .271.
Owings overcame a kidney transplant that forced him to miss the entire 2018 season, returning to professional baseball in 2019 with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League.
In 2021, Owings was inducted into the Coastal Carolina Athletics Sasser Hall of Fame as both an individual and as a member of the Chanticleers' 2016 national championship team. He was also named to the Big South Baseball All-Decade Team (2010-19).
