Jackson moved to Statesboro in July of 2017 with the consolidation of Armstrong State University in Savannah with Georgia Southern. He had served as the Director of Sports Communications for the NCAA Division II level Pirates for 18 years as he was hired as the department's first full-time sports information professional in August of 1999. His first full-time athletics communications role was as an assistant sports information director at UNC Wilmington from 1998-99.

He has worked with the men's soccer, swimming and diving and softball teams at Georgia Southern as well as his current sports responsibilities in his eight years with the Eagles. He has been an active member of College Sports Communicators (CSC) since 1998 and serves on the member recognition committee after previous committee stints on the computer, technology and new media committees.

While at Armstrong State, he was twice honored as the Peach Belt Conference SID of the Year and in 2015, received the "Spirit of Armstrong" award from the university. Jackson was also inducted as part of the last Armstrong Athletics Hall of Fame class inducted in 2017 with a Service Citation award. He was instrumental in the creation of the Armstrong Hall of Champions facility, which spotlights and honors the 50 years of Armstrong State athletics covering 1967-2017. It is located on the Georgia Southern University's Armstrong campus in the lobby of the Armstrong Recreation Center.

A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Jackson got his start in collegiate athletics working as a student at the University of Florida in sports information and operations. He graduated from the University of North Florida with his bachelor's degree in history in 1995 and interned with the UNF sports information office for three years.

He has been married to Melissa Jackson, an interlibrary loan librarian at Lane Library on the Georgia Southern Armstrong campus, for 25 years and the couple reside in Pooler.
