Donnie Ussery joined the Georgia Southern Athletics Department in 2022 as a learning specialist for Student-Athlete Services. As a learning specialist, he works with at-risk student-athletes providing essential learning strategies and individualized academic support. Prior to moving into the Athletic Department, Ussery worked with the Student Accessibility Resource Center as Student Accessibility Coordinator for four years. He assisted disabled students with access and accommodations to an inclusive college experience.

Ussery grew up in Bulloch County and graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor's Degree in history education. He received his Master's and Educational Specialist degrees from Lincoln Memorial University in Educational Administration. Ussery taught in the Effingham County Public Education System for 15 years as a history teacher and credit recovery specialist. Ussery also serves as the Site Director for Coastal Plains Charter School in Sylvania, Georgia, in the afternoons for high school students who wish to receive their high school diploma through alternative online curriculum.

Ussery lives in Statesboro with his wife, Susan.
