CLEMSON, S.C. — In a game that was delayed two hours due to lightning, the Georgia Southern football team fall to Clemson 22-7 on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. The Eagles' points came in the second quarter, when Max Johnson threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Ashton Hollins with 3:03 left before halftime. The Eagles threw for 244 yards but were held to 22 rushing yards and went 4-for-17 on third down, while their defense finished with two sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery.

The Eagles' defense produced two takeaways in the first quarter, with Jakyri Jones intercepting a pass and later recovering a fumble forced by Carlo Thompson near the goal line. The Tigers still totaled 47 rushing yards, 47 passing yards and nine first downs, while the Eagles were held to 15 passing yards, 1 rushing yard and no first downs in a quarter that ended with the Tigers ahead 7-0.

The Tigers used three field goals in the second quarter and finished the quarter with 132 passing yards and seven first downs, while the Eagles had 87 passing yards and three first downs. The Eagles' scoring came on a six-play, 75-yard drive capped by Max Johnson's 42-yard touchdown pass to Hollins and Tripp Bryant's PAT, making it 13-7 before the Tigers added a final field goal to lead 16-7 at the end of the quarter.

The Eagles controlled the ball for 9:25 and picked up five first downs in a scoreless third quarter, but finished the quarter with 46 passing yards and one rushing yard while punting three times. The Tigers were limited to 3-of-6 passing for 17 yards, and the Eagles' defense recorded two tackles for loss, including Elijah Fears' sack. The Tigers remained ahead 16-7 entering the fourth quarter.

The Eagles totaled 96 passing yards and six first downs in the fourth quarter, including an 11-play, 72-yard drive that reached the Tigers' 3 before ending on downs. The Tigers went 0 for 3 on third down and had 1 passing yard in the quarter, but Nolan Hauser made field goals from 50 and 49 yards as the Tigers outscored the Eagles 6-0 and closed out a 22-7 final.

Max Johnson completed 27 of 47 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown. Hollins caught five passes for 97 yards and a touchdown. Jakyri Jones recorded seven tackles and added an interception and a fumble recovery. Rashon Myles Jr. led the Eagles with 13 tackles.

The game kicked at 9:31 p.m., the latest kickoff on record for the Eagles.

The Eagles are 1-1 overall. The Tigers are 1-1 overall.
