STATESBORO --- The Georgia Southern swim and dive team handled business inside the RAC Aquatics Center on Senior Day. The swim team defeated North Florida 180-114, and the dive team took first over both UNC Asheville and SCAD.
Karlee Wells and the dive team started the day off hot, as the senior Wells put up the second-best score of her career in the 1-meter with a 308.30 in the finals, good for second-best in program history. The Eagles would sweep the podium as along with Wells' event win, Abby Ounsworth and McKinlee Taulbee took second and third, respectively.
Of the 14 swimming events on the day, Georgia Southern took the top spot in ten of them. The highlight of the afternoon was Sterling Burd's blistering time of 2:04.50 in the 200 Fly, which set a new pool record in the Aquatics Center. She also took home the crown in the 100 Fly, swimming a 57.15. Both her and Sarah Luskus were the only swimmers to win two events on the day, as Luskus won both the 100 and 200 Breast with her times of 1:05.88 and 2:23.40, respectively.
Other Eagle winners were Victoria Kjaerulff in the 1000 Free of 10:43.36, freshman Calissa Kissinger swam with passion in the 100 Back to win it with her time of 59.03 and Scout Chapin won the 200 IM with a 2:10.49 time. Allie Byerly scored well on the afternoon, winning the 200 Back with a 2:08.19 and took second in the 100 Back, swimming a 59.48. Jamison Tiller also showed out, swimming a 1:56.19 in the 200 Free to take the event win while just placing second in the 100 Free at a 53.33 pace.
The Eagles would also take the 400 Medley Relay to start the meet, as the quartet of Kissinger, Luskus, Chapin and Tiller would win the event by nearly a second with their 3:55.61.
With their home meet now behind them, the Eagles next finish up their regular season before the conference meet. Both the swim and dive teams will take to Greenville for a dual meet at North Carolina on January 24th.
