GAME PREVIEW: Eagles Ready to Take on Gamecocks in Paulson

Home opener set for Saturday at 7 p.m.

STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern football team makes its 2025 debut at Allen E. Paulson Stadium/Evans Family Feild Saturday when it hosts Jax State in non-conference action. Kickoff is set for 7:02 p.m. and it will be carried on ESPN+. The game will also be available via radio on the Georgia Southern Sports Network. Here's all you need to know about the game:

Of Note:
  • This will be the fifth football meeting between Georgia Southern and Jacksonville State. The Eagles lead the series 4-0, but the two schools haven't played since 2002. 
  • This will be the first meeting between the two teams as members of the FBS. The previous four meetings came when both teams were in the Division I-AA/FCS. The series began in 1992 with the Eagles winning 10-0 in Statesboro. In 1998, Southern beat Jax State 51-32 at home before winning in Alabama 51-14 a year later. The last meeting came in 2002 with Georgia Southern winning 41-3 at Paulson Stadium.
  • Georgia Southern returns the trip to Jax State next season.
  • Gamecock offensive coordinator Clint Trickett and tight ends coach Taylor Housewright served on the Georgia Southern coaching staff in 2024.
  • Jax State outside linebacker Issac Walker and safety Tyler Bride spent time in Statesboro as members of the Eagles.
  • The Eagles are 33-7 in home openers at Paulson Stadium.
