Women’s Golf Advances to Semifinals at Sun Belt Championships

Eagles take #1 seed heading into match play

POINT CLEAR, Ala. – The Georgia Southern women's golf team advanced to semifinals match play after finishing atop the leaderboard after three rounds of stroke play at the Sun Belt Conference Championships at Lakewood Golf Club. 

The Eagles are set to take on ULM in semifinal match play on Thursday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. 

Georgia Southern shot 287-290-293 to finish nine strokes ahead of second place Coastal Carolina and the top four were rounded out by Southern Miss and ULM. Coastal Carolina will take on Southern Miss in the semifinals with the winner taking on the Eagles or ULM. 

Louise Reau led the Eagles firing a 72-69-72 to tie for second place in just her second conference tournament appearance. Reau shot even in the opening round including five birdies before posting a tournament best 69 (-3). She was bogey free with four birdies on the front nine and added one more on the back. Reau carded an even par final round with two birdies to bring her total to 14 birdies on the tournament. Reau now has seven top-5 finishes on the season. 

LoraLie Cowart posted a 2-under 214 for a Georgia Southern career best 54 hole total. The Carrollton native., got off to a strong start carding a 68 (-4) to lead the field after round one. Cowart tallied six birdies in the round and used a birdie on 14 to get back to 4-under as she would remain there the rest of the round. In the final round, Cowart shot an even par adding two birdies for 13 total on the tournament. 

Kelsey Chen tallied her fifth top-20 finish of her freshman campaign shooting 76-72-74 to tie for 18th. Chen fired her best round in the second shooting an even par and tallied nine birdies in stroke play. 

Drive Tunwannarux opened the tournament posting her best round 1-over 73 recording three birdies. She shot 3-over 75 in the final two rounds combining for three birdies. Mary Miller (74-81-80) tallied six birdies over three rounds and finished tied for 55th.

Next Up
The Eagles are set for match play against ULM beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Lakewood Golf Club. The winners of the semifinals will compete in a second match play for the Sun Belt Championship. Match play is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN+.
