Baker Posts Top-20 Finish at The Ford Collegiate

Eagles begin prep work for Sun Belt Championship

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. - Brantley Baker and Brycen Jones both shot 67s to close out The Ford Collegiate in strong fashion as the Georgia Southern men's golf team wrapped up its regular season Tuesday at The Ford Field & River Club.

The first two rounds were played on Monday with Parker Claxton leading the charge with a pair of even-par 70s. In the first round, the junior used a pair of birdies on the front nine and then birdied 7 and 16 in the second round to finish off a strong first day. Ian Glanton recorded five birdies in the first round en route to a 71 playing as an individual and Baker shot a 72 to top off the scoring. In the second round, Edouard Cereto shot a 72 to complement Claxton's 70 and Hogan Ingram posted four birdies to lead the way on the back half of the day.

The Eagles saved their best round for Tuesday under breezy conditions, improving by nine shots from the second round. Baker used six birdies to card his 67 and Jones used five birdies to account for his 67. Claxton also had a team-high six birdies in the round. With his 67, Baker jumped up 23 spots on the round and finished tied for 19th. It was the second-biggest move up on the leaderboard for the day. Baker and Jones's 67 was tied for the second-lowest round of the day in the field, trailing only the eventual champion by one shot.

In a field that featured eight of the top 35 teams in the country, second-ranked Texas shot a final-round, three-under par to finish two-under for the tournament and claim the title over seventh-ranked LSU. Georgia teammates Buck Brumlow and Grayson Wood finished tied at two-under and had to go to a playoff to determine the individual champ. Brumlow stuck his approach shot close on the 18th hole and made the birdie to claim the trophy and an exemption into next year's Club Car Championship at The Landings on the Korn Ferry Tour.

As a team, the Eagles were fourth in the field in total birdies with 44. Baker led the way with 11 to tie for sixth in the field while Glanton and Claxton both had 10 birdies and Ingram and Jones both had nine.

Words From Coach Carter Collins: "What a week at The Ford. We cannot thank the membership and staff enough for making this one of the most special weeks of the year to be able to compete for a Korn Ferry exemption at a PGA Tour-caliber course in pristine condition was a special treat that made us better. We played very well in some tough conditions during the final round and gained some momentum for conference next weekend.

"Thank you so much for the Ford Field and River club, it was an honor for us to host this event and we cannot wait until next year … Hail Southern!"
