Two Eagles place in record books, several earn PRs
STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern track and field squad earned a total team victory to kick off the outdoor season at the Georgia Southern relays.
"This was a great way for us to open our season," head coach David Neville said. "We wanted to shake the rust off and get back after it after having some weeks off after the indoor season. We saw many great things across the board and I think this has given us a lot to look forward to this outdoor season."
The Eagles earned 251 team points to pace the field before Asbury University (Ky.), who finished second with a score of 113.
Several Eagles earned PRs or finished in the program record books. Emily Wheldon placed seventh all-time in the record books in the 1,500m with a time of 4:43.55, and Shatalya Dorsett's time of 24.11 in the 200m paced the field and was no. 8 in GS history.
The list of PRs for the Eagles is below.
Emani George, 100m (12.19) and 200m (24.62)
Madison Hevesy, long jump (5.20m)
Jayla Lawrence, 200m (24.39)
Melanie Tribick, 5,000m (19:04.82)
Julia Wilson, 5,000m (20:25.42)
GS will split the squad up next week and head to the Texas Relays (University of Texas) and Raleigh Relays (NC State).
