Eagles Tie For Eighth at Johnnie-O

Full attention now turned to 45th playing of Schenkel Invitational

ST SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men's golf team overcame tough weather conditions to tie for eighth place in their maiden appearance at the Johnnie-O Collegiate, hosted by Rutgers University at Sea Island - Seaside Course.

Monday's first round was suspended just a few holes in as heavy winds made the course unplayable. The teams returned to the course at 4:30 p.m. to play 12 holes and then came back out to play the final six holes of the first round and a full 18 holes for the second round on Tuesday. The event became a 36-hole tournament due to the lost time on the course.

Brycen Jones led the Eagles in the first round, shooting an even-par 70 with one birdie and one bogey. Parker Claxton shot a 72 while Ingram and Luke Koenig both posted a 73. Ingram led the way in round two with a season-low 68 while Ian Glanton, playing as an individual, shot his season low of 69. Koenig posted a 70 with Brantley Baker shooting a 71 and Jones shooting a 72 as the Eagles improved their team score by six from round one to round two.

Ingram led the way with a 141 (+1), shooting a 73-68. He shot up the leader board 22 spots in the second round to secure a tie for 13th place overall. His 29 pars over the 36 holes were the second most in the field as he posted three birdies and four bogeys over the course of two days.

The team tied fourth in the field on the par 5s, averaging 4.70 and led the field with 125 pars. Jones and Glanton both had 28 pars, tied for the third most in the field.

Words From Coach Carter Collins: "It was a tale of two rounds, condition-wise. The first round was very windy and we did a good job of grinding and getting what we could out of the round. During today's round, the wind died. It was target practice and we just didn't execute well enough. We are very close to putting it together and picked up a few more positives this week. No better time to play our best than the final stretch of spring season. Hail Southern!"

The Eagles will host the 45th Schenkel Invitational this weekend at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro. Action begins Friday morning at 9 a.m.
