Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Georgia Southern men's tennis began its weekend of action in Birmingham on Saturday by picking up a 5-2 win over Samford.
The Eagles move to 7-5 on the year with the victory, while Samford falls to 9-4. It's the first win for Georgia Southern over its former SoCon rival since 2013.
Georgia Southern took the doubles point with a 6-3 win from Laurent Julia Calac and Aaron James Williams at No. 1 doubles, as well as a 6-1 win from Dimitris Paliouras and Pierre Mouesca at No. 2 doubles.
The Eagles then completed the win with three straight-set singles victories. Williams claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Darcy Nicholls at No. 2 singles, while Mouesca downed J.B. Pickard, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 4 singles. Calac beat Sebastian Harrison, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.Â
Samford notched singles wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, while Pol del Castillo provided the final margin with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 win over Hayden Menon at No. 3 singles.
Georgia Southern will finish its weekend trip to Birmingham on Sunday, taking on UAB in a Noon ET match.
