NCAA SCORECARD
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern wrapped up its regular season with a victory over North Georgia Saturday at the Shooting Sports Education Center on NCAA Qualifier day. With the win, the Eagles finish the season 12-4 and await the upcoming NCAA Selection Show.
Saturday's NCAA qualifying score will be the last factor determining the field for the 2025 NCAA Rifle Championships, which will be held inside Historic Memorial Coliseum in March in Lexington, Kentucky. Each team's three score aggregate average – the score based on each team's highest three regular season scores fired at three different locations – has already been recorded. This weekend's qualifier score will be added to that average. The teams with the eight highest combined scores will qualify for the NCAA Championship and make their way to Lexington for the championships March 14-15.
In smallbore,
Emme Walrath led the way with a 588 and 42 centers. She was followed
Tori Watts in second place who shot a 584.
Bremen Butler took third with a 583 while
Zahra Gonzalez Mazo and
Ella Goldfaden both shot 578s for sixth and seventh place, respectively.
Emma Pohlmann and
Hailey Singleton both shot 574 to take ninth and 10th place, respectively.
In air rifle, Walrath posted a sizzling 597 to lead the way and take the gold. Pohlmann and Butler both shot 595s to finish second and third, respectively and they were followed by Watts (593; 5th), Goldfaden (591; 6th), Singleton (585; 8th) and Gonzalez Mazo (578; 11th).
The Eagles were led in aggregate by Walrath's 1,185. Butler took the silver with a 1,178 and Watts captured third with a 1,177. Four other Eagles finished in the top 10: Pohlmann (1,169; 5th), Goldfaden (1,169; 6th), Singleton (1,162; 8th) and Gonzalez Mazo (1,156; 9th).
Words From Coach Soren Butler:
"Today was incredibly difficult, we knew it would be. Making NCAAs and winning a national championship are the two goals our team has remaining this year. We had a really disappointing start in smallbore, but I'm really proud of how the team worked. We responded really well in air so I'm really pleased with that. This will be a difficult afternoon of waiting but we knew those were the consequences of an outcome like this. I'm really proud of this team and look forward to seeing what happens. Hail Southern!"
