Camden Brown named Newcomer of the Year
NEW ORLEANS – Twelve Georgia Southern football players were honored by the league coaches and members of the media as the Sun Belt Conference announced Thursday the selections for its all-conference teams.
Senior receiver Camden Brown was voted as the Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year and was named first-team All-Sun Belt Conference after leading the nation in touchdown receptions with 14 and becoming the first Georgia Southern player to ever record 1,000 yards receiving. Joining Brown on the first team were senior offensive lineman Caleb Cook and junior defensive lineman MJ Stroud. Cook, who was a 2024 third-team all-conference pick, graded out as the #1 offensive guard in the SBC and #13 nationally among G6 offensive guards by PFF (minimum 80% of snaps) while Stroud tallied 14 tackles for loss and a team-high 6.5 sack.
Senior offensive lineman Pichon Wimbley and senior running back OJ Arnold were both named to the second team. Wimbley, who was a 2024 third-team All-Sun Belt selection, graded as the #5 offensive guard in the SBC by PFF (minimum 80% of snaps) and has started all 51 games of his career. Arnold was leading the conference in rushing yards before an injury in game 11, which sidelined him for the final two games, but is still ranked seventh in the country and first in the SBC in yards per carry (6.6) and is fifth in the conference with 880 yards and five touchdowns and is seventh in the conference in all-purpose yards. He also has 201 yards receiving (1 TD) and 85 yards passing (2-for-2, 2 TDs) and became the first player in school history to rush for a TD, catch a TD pass and throw a TD pass in the same game when he did it against Coastal Carolina.
Junior punter Alex Smith, senior return specialist Dalen Cobb and sophomore offensive lineman Johnnie Brown III were named to the third team. Smith, who was a 2024 honorable mention All-SBC selection, averaged 42.6 yards per punt in 2025 and forced 21 fair catches, had 14 punts downed inside the 20-yard line, seven punts of 50 yards or longer with a long of 55 yards. Cobb averaged 26.4 yards per kickoff return and had a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Jax State and 144 yards on returns vs. Coastal Carolina. Brown is a walk-on thrust into the starting lineup due to injury, who ended up starting 11 games at OT and graded as the #1 run blocking offensive lineman in the Sun Belt and #10 among all G6 offensive tackles by PFF (minimum 700 offensive snaps).
Four Eagles - senior receiver Marcus Sanders Jr., senior linebacker Brendan Harrington, senior defensive back Dorrian Smith and senior tight end Ahmon Green - earned honorable mention recognition.
The Sun Belt Conference's coaches and a member of the media representing each team voted on the list of candidates for the teams with points assigned for rankings for each position. The first, second and third teams are compromised of 12 offensive players (1 QB, 3 WR, 2 RB, 1 TE, 5 OL), 12 defensive players (4 DL, 3 LB, 4 DB, 1 at large selection) and four special team players (K, P, Return Specialist and All-Purpose), unless there are ties.
