STATESBORO – Georgia Southern (18-5, 9-3 SBC) earned a straight-set victory over Coastal Carolina (16-7, 8-3 SBC) on Saturday afternoon inside Hanner Fieldhouse, taking the match 25-22, 25-20, 25-23 to extend its strong run in Sun Belt play.
"Great effort all weekend, true team wins both days," head coach Chad Willis said. "The prep work all week was on full display with execution and staying locked into the game plan. Thank you Eagle Nation for the support, Hanner was electric!"
The Eagles controlled the match from the opening serve holding the Chanticleers to a .121 mark offensively. Reagan Barth powered the Georgia Southern attack with 13 kills and added two blocks, finishing with a team-high 14 points.
Sam Bowron followed with seven kills and three aces, while Lydia Seymour posted six kills and five total blocks in a dominant effort at the net. Setter Kirsten Barrett dished out 27 assists and anchored the defense with 10 digs, while libero Maddie Cugino led all the Eagles defensively with 16 digs.
Coastal Carolina stayed within striking distance throughout the afternoon but could not overcome Georgia Southern's balanced offense and defensive pressure. Jalyn Stout led the Chanticleers with eight kills and 19 digs, while Anna Rita and Emma Van Elslande each added eight kills.
Georgia Southern closed out each set with poise, winning late-point battles in all three frames to secure the sweep. The Eagles capitalized at the service line with six aces and out-blocked Coastal 11-10, using consistent pressure and timely plays to maintain their edge.
"Great team win today against a gritty Coastal team," Georgia Southern head volleyball coach Chad Willis said. "Thought our group did a great job of staying dialed into the big moments. The energy from Eagle Nation was definitely a driving force today, proud of the work put in all week to get us a couple of nice results."
With the win, Georgia Southern continues to build momentum as postseason play approaches. The Eagles will next travel to Atlanta to take in-state rival Georgia State (13-9, 4-7 SBC) for two Sun Belt matches, beginning on Friday November 7.
