
Georgia Southern Falls in Five to James Madison

Harrisonburg, VA – Georgia Southern battled through five sets but ultimately fell to James Madison, 3–2 (25–17, 13–25, 20–25, 25–23, 15–11), Friday evening. The Eagles dropped to 16–4 overall and 7–2 in Sun Belt play, while the Dukes improved to 15–6 and 8–1 in the conference.
After dropping the opening set, the Eagles responded with back-to-back wins in sets two and three, hitting .429 and .308 respectively to take a 2–1 match lead. However, James Madison regained momentum late, edging out tight fourth and fifth sets to claim the victory.
Reagan Barth led the Georgia Southern offense with 16 kills, while Maggie Sale and Alex Myers each added 12 and 11, respectively. Setter Kirsten Barrett guided the attack with 34 assists and contributed 23 digs.
The Eagles out-hit the Dukes .232 to .213 and finished with 18 total blocks, led by Lydia Seymour's six block assists.
For James Madison, Kennedy Louisell powered the Dukes with 19 kills and 14 digs, while setter Rebecca Watkins dished out 26 assists. Melisa Ilter and Ayen Nhial each chipped in nine kills as the Dukes held off a strong Georgia Southern rally in front of their home crowd of 524.
Georgia Southern will look to bounce back in Saturday's rematch at 1 p.m. ET to even the weekend series.
