STATESBORO, Ga. --- The 2024-2025 swim & dive team are not far from the beginning of their season in just two weeks. However, this season will begin a new era for the Eagles as head coach Morgan McCafferty takes the reigns for her first season in Statesboro. With Allyson Sweeney stepping down at the end of last season, Georgia Southern has hired the Nebraska standout swimmer and University of Idaho assistant coach to take direction in 2024.
Last season for the Eagles saw incredible marks and finishes as the team not only placed third in the Sun Belt Championships, but also was able to compete at the National Invitational Championships. At the meet, four Eagles placed in the top four of their respective races and nearly all competitors in the meet are returning for the '24-'25 season, including Chiari Alberti, Logan Belanger, and Zuri Clavo, among others.
The schedule for the upcoming season is also set to be full of a broad range of competition and experience for the Eagles. Of course, the team will participate in Swim Across America on the 21st of September before competing in the Osprey Invitational just one week later. The first of three Eagle home meets is next as Statesboro hosts West Florida on October 5th and then travel to the Eagle Invite, hosted by FGCU, on the 18th and 19th.
the first meet of November is on the 8th as only the diving team will travel to Atlanta for the Emory U Invitational. Then, both teams will compete in different locations on the 20-22nd as swim travels to the University of South carolina while dive travels to the University of Georgia. The 2024 year closes out with a home meet as the Eagles host both East Carolina and UNC-Asheville.
Georgia Southern travels to Jacksonville to take on North Florida on January 25th with the Ospreys coming back to Statesboro exactly a week later. the final regular season meet is at Marshall on February 1st before the Sun Belt Championships on the 19-22nd at the Rosen Aquatic center in Orlando, Fla.
