Senior averaged seven digs per set and recorded just four errors in the Eagles' weekend sweep
STATESBORO- Volleyball libero Ashlyn Lovett has earned her second consecutive and third overall Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week award, the league announced on Tuesday.
Lovett had yet another strong weekend on the defensive side, named to the Bash in the Boro all-tournament team after averaging a scorching 7.00 digs per set in the three games. She recorded 63 digs and just four receiving errors (.920 rec%), including 30 in three sets against Western Carolina on Saturday.
Lovett, at the forefront of the team leading the conference and third in the nation in digs per set, became just the second Eagle to record 30 or more digs in a three-set match, joining herself a week ago.
The senior is currently first in the conference and second in all of the NCAA in digs per set at a career-best 5.97. Her 221 total digs are top in the conference and 13th in the NCAA.
Lovett becomes the second Eagle this season to earn back-to-back POTW honors, joining Kirsten Barrett, and is the first Eagle to rack up three SBC POTW honors in a single season.
She is the first volleyball player to be named conference player of the week three times in a season since Alex Beecher also took home SoCon defensive POTW honors thrice in 2012.
The 10-1 Eagles ride a nine-game winning streak into a conference tilt with Old Dominion on Friday.
