
PREVIEW: Men's Soccer Opens Sun Belt Play at Kentucky

Statesboro, Ga. --- The Georgia Southern men's soccer team (3-0-2) travels to Lexington to take on the Kentucky Wildcats (1-2-2) tomorrow night at 7:30 PM to open up their conference slate for 2024.
The Wildcats last outing was a 2-2 draw at Lipscomb in their first road game of the season. Kentucky scored their two goals in the opening 12 minutes of the match. However, they allowed Lipscomb to score later that half and give up a penalty kick in the 76th minute to result in a draw.
The Eagles last outing saw a similar result as they drew 2-2 with the UAB Blazers. Southern allowed a goal in the opening 15 minutes, but scored two unanswered in the second half by a SportsCenter Top-10 shot by Massimo Caruso and also Ricky Louis to take the lead. However, with just 90 seconds remaining, the Blazers would score the tying goal via a header in the box to end the match at two all.
For the first time in program history, the Eagles are undefeated heading into conference play and are off to their best start in program history. With the eight goals in the past three matches, Harry Dale has been a part of half of them. His now four assists leads the Sun Belt and is sixth in the country at .80 assists per match. He is the first Eagles since 1996 to record four assist in a two-match span.
The meeting will be just the fifth all-time between the two programs, where the Wildcats lead 1-2-1. Georgia Southern has never won in Lexington, as they are 0-1-1. Last year's match in Statesboro resulted in a 1-1 draw. Finally, while they are currently unranked, Kentucky were as high as #16 in the Division I polls.
