Sophomore earns golfer of the week accolades
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern men's golfer Luke Koenig was honored Friday, earning Sun Belt Conference Men's Golfer of the Week honors. It marks the first honor for the sophomore and the first by an Eagle this season.
Koenig led the Eagles in a strong field at the Inaugural Invitational at the Ford, held at the prestigious Ford River & Field Club. Koenig shot a 74-66-72 (212) to go four-under and tie for 12th. Koenig tied for third out of 54 players with 38 pars and played the par 5s at 7-under for the tournament (T7th).
He was joined by Women's Golfer of the Week Hannah Karg of Coastal Carolina.
Koenig and the Eagles will compete in nearby Bluffton, South Carolina, next week at the Colleton River Collegiate. The two-day event at the Colleton River Club - Nicklaus Course begins Monday morning.
