Statesboro, Ga. --- The Georgia Southern men's soccer team drew 1-1 with the Georgia State Panthers at Bo Pitts Field on Friday night (October 18th).
Although late in the half, the Panthers were the ones to strike first after a corner kick header from Charlie Ward off the set piece from Braiden Hall put the Panthers up headed into halftime. The Eagles outshot their opposition 9-4 at the break and had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The second half saw an offensive flurry for Southern, but no change in the scoreboard whatsoever. The Eagles had a whopping 23 shots on the night, with eight on target, but nothing was falling. However, with nine seconds left, a corner kick from Massimo Caruso found the feet of Joe O'Conner to tap in the tying goal for the Eagles and escape with one point.
The corner kick was one of 13 on the night for Georgia Southern and the Panthers took five of their own. Between the sticks, the Georgia State keeper made seven saves of his own to irk the Eagles all night. However, the defense also stood strong for the Eagles as they only forced two Panther shots on target throughout the 90 minutes.
Georgia Southern (5-3-4, 1-2-2 SBC) finally hits the road after their three-match home stretch as they travel to top-five ranked Marshall for a match this upcoming Wednesday, October 23rd. Kickoff in Huntington, W.Va. is set for 7:15 PM.
