Eagles Drop Heartbreaker to #2 Kentucky

Team drops one-point decision to Wildcats

For the second weekend in a row, the fifth-ranked Georgia Southern rifle team dropped a one-point decision to the second-ranked team in the country, this time to Kentucky Saturday at the Shooting Sports Education Center.

In smallbore, Emme Walrath led the way with a 591 to take first. Emma Pohlmann and Ella Goldfaden both shot 585 to take fourth and fifth, respectively. Zahra Gonzalez Mazo (581; 7th), Bremen Butler (580; 8th), Tori Watts (579; 9th) and Hailey Singleton (575; 12th) also toed the line for the Eagles. The team score of 2,341 gave the Eagles a four-point lead heading to air rifle.

In air rifle, the Wildcats closed the gap late to take air rifle and the aggregate. Goldfaden led the way with a 598, which tied her career high. Butler, Walrath and Pohlmann all shot a 594 to tied for fifth place, followed by Watts (589), Singleton and Gonzalez Mazo (587).

The Eagles were led in aggregate by Walrath who took the gold with a 1,185 and 90 centers. Goldfaden finished third with a 1,183 and was followed by Pohlmann (1,179; 5th), Butler (1,174; 6th), Watts and Gonzalez Mazo (1,168; T9th).

"We have some good things to take away from the match, but we definitely fell short of the standards we have set for ourselves. We're learning how to put full matches together and we're not quite there, but I do believe we're doing the things needed to make that happen. I look forward to preparing for our matches next weekend in New York. "
