Ally Barnhart Tabbed Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week

The fifth-year middle blocker tied a three-set program record for blocks in a game and was named MVP of the Campbell Invitational

NEW ORLEANS– Fifth-year middle blocker Ally Barnhart was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week following her performance in the Campbell Invitational, the league announced on Tuesday.

Barnhart was named tournament MVP after she finished the weekend with 14 total blocks in eight sets played, good enough for 1.75 blocks/set, while also racking up 18.5 points. She also led the Eagles in hitting percentage over the weekend with a .444 mark, including a .500 mark against Campbell on Saturday.

Barnhart's ten blocks (three solo, seven assists) in three sets against San Jose State tied a three-set program record originally set in 2006 by Jennifer Schenk while also setting a new career-high in the process. She also contributed four more block assists against host Campbell the following day.

This season, the Lenexa, Kan. native has a .348 hitting percentage and 21 total blocks (eight solo, 13 assists).

The Eagles return to action on Tuesday against UNC Asheville.
