STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern men's golf team has earned an at-large bid to the Salem Regional for the NCAA Men's Golf Championships, it was announced on The GOLF Channel Wednesday afternoon.
The regional is scheduled for May 15-17 at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls, where the Eagles will compete against 13 other teams and five individuals. The Salem Regional is one of six in the country. The top five teams and the top individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals, which will be played May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The Eagles are the fifth seed in the Salem Regional, which has a field of North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, San Diego State, Arkansas, Purdue, New Mexico, Clemson, Furman, Middle Tennessee, Northern Illinois, Long Island and Longwood.
Ranked 26th in the country by Golfstat, the Eagles are making their 28th appearance in the NCAA Championships, the sixth under Collins and the 11th in Collins' 15-year tenure on the coaching staff. Georgia Southern has earned bids to the last four NCAA Championships and advanced to the NCAA Finals in 2019 and 2022.
Georgia Southern took first in the stroke play portion of the Sun Belt Championship April 26, its fourth team tournament title this season.
Ben Carr (T3),
Wilson Andress (T5) and
Mason Williams (T8) all finished in the top-10 and were named first-team All-Sun Belt in a vote by the league's head coaches, which was announced yesterday.
Carr was also named the league's Golfer of the Year, Collins was named Coach of the Year and freshman
Parker Claxton earned second-team all-league accolades.
