
Five Eagles Earn CSC Academic All-District At-Large Honors

All five on the Academic All-District team will advance to national balloting for potential All-America honors, to be announced on June 22
STATESBORO - Five Georgia Southern student-athletes have earned spots on the Collegiate Sports Communicators Academic All-District At-Large team, announced today by the organization. The at-large program consists of 13 NCAA-sponsored sports, two of which Georgia Southern sponsors (women's golf and rifle).
The five honorees are: senior rifle athlete Addy Burrow, senior rifle athlete Ashley Judson, junior golf athlete Abby Newton, junior rifle athlete Amy Visconti and redshirt senior golf athlete Haley Yerxa.
A Collegiate Rifle Coaches' Association All-American, Burrow was also a qualifier for the NCAA Air Rifle Championship. She was the SoCon Smallbore and Air Rifle Athlete of the Year and was named first-team All-SoCon in both disciplines. The Williamson, Georgia, native averaged a school-record 585.143 in smallbore, including a school-record 589 on Sept. 30 at Morehead State. Burrow, who was also a CRCA Scholastic All-American, graduated from NC State and will return next year as she continues to work on her Master's degree in professional communications. She graduated NCSU with a 3.88 GPA and carries a 3.83 GPA at Southern.
Judson, was the 2023 SoCon smallbore runner-up and bronze medalist in air rifle. A second-team All-SoCon selection in air rifle, the Acworth, Georgia, native leaves Georgia Southern with the top air rifle career average (585.404) and No. 2 aggregate career average (1,149.700). She earned the Pinnacle Award at the SoCon Championships, given to the member of the championship team with the highest cumulative GPA and was a four-time CRCA Scholastic All-American. Judson, who also earned Academic All-District honors in 2021, graduated with a 3.94 GPA in psychology.
A two-time, first-team All-Sun Belt selection, Newton competed in all 11 events and led the Eagles with a 73.93 scoring average, which ranks 12th in the league. The Statesboro native earned her first collegiate win at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate (73-71-72=216 E) and posted three top-5 outings and six top-20 finishes. Newton carries a 3.90 grade point average in finance and is a two-time WGCA All-American Scholar and two-time selection to the Sun Belt Commissioner's List.
Visconti was the 2023 SoCon Smallbore Champion and a first-team All-SoCon selection in smallbore. The junior from Champlain, New York, posted a season aggregate average of 1,160.286, the third-best in program history and averaged 577.429 in smallbore, the second-best in program history. A CRCA Scholatic All-American, Visconti is majoring in criminal justice who carries a 3.74 cumulative GPA.
A graduate transfer from Florida Gulf Coast, Yerxa was named the Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year and second-team all-conference. She played in 10 events for Georgia Southern, recording a 74.96 scoring average. She tied for 16th at the Sun Belt Conference Championship and collected two top-5 finishes and six top-20 showings, including a runner-up outing at the Ford Invite. A 2022 CSC Academic All-District selection at FGCU, Yerxa graduated with a 4.0 grade point average and carries a 4.0 at Georgia Southern while working toward her Master's degree in biomedical engineering. The Ottawa, Ontario, native is a two-time WGCA All-American Scholar and was a two-time ASUN All-Academic selection.
