Troy Eliminates Eagles from Sun Belt Conference Championship

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men's tennis team fell to Troy 4-2 in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Thursday afternoon in Peachtree City, Ga.
The Eagles (15-8) got on the board first by securing the doubles point by taking the final two matches in the doubles set. After falling at the No. 3 position, Pol del Castillo Masich and Aaron James Williams took down their opponent at the No. 1 position 6-3, then Valentin Dun and Alexandros Roumpis clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 position, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead going into singles play.
In singles, Troy (18-6) tied the match up with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 position, and took a 2-1 lead with a victory at the No. 4 position by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Troy would expend the lead to 3-1 with a victory at the No. 3 position, 7-6, 6-4, but the Eagles began to claw back with a victory by Roumpis at the No. 5 position, 6-4, 7-6. Both of the matches at the No. 1 and No. 6 positions went to a third set, but the match at the No. 1 position finished first, with Troy clinching the match-winning point by a score of 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, eliminating the Eagles from the conference tournament.
