BOILING SPRINGS, NC - The Georgia Southern men's tennis team snapped a nine-match win streak by the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Dogs with a 4-3 victory on Sunday afternoon in Boiling Springs, NC. The win moves the Eagles to 7-3 on the season while GWU fell to 9-3.

Gardner-Webb jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the afternoon after taking the doubles point with 7-6 victories on both the No. 1 and No 3 positions. At the No. 2 position, Aaron James Williams and Alexandros Roumpis were able to claim a 7-5 victory to avoid the sweep in the doubles.

In singles, the Runnin' Bulldogs quickly got ahead with a 2-0 lead after the player at the No. 1 position defeated Pol del Castillo Masich, 7-6, 7-6. However, the Eagles were able to get on the board th the No. 3 positions when Pierre Mouesca took down his opponent with quick 6-2, 6-3 scores. The Eagles tied up the match at 2-2 with Judson Blair's 6-4, 6-0 victory at the No. 5 position, but GWU took the lead right back with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 6 position. Williams tied the match up at 3-3 thanks to his 6-4, 7-6 victory, setting the stage for Dimitris Paliouras to clinch the victory for his team for the fourth time this season, defeating his opponent 7-5, 6-3 and earning the Eagles' seventh win this season.

UP NEXT
Georgia Southern will host three matches in four days, starting with the North Florida Ospreys on Thursday, March 2. Following that match will be a match against the Mercer Bears on Saturday, March 4, before the Eagles end the three-match homestand against the UAB Blazers on Sunday, March 5.
