Eagles Fall to ODU on Senior Night

Georgia Southern travels to App State next Saturday

STATESBORO – Ethan Sanchez kicked a 22-yard field goal as time expired, lifting Old Dominion to a 20-17 victory over the Georgia Southern football squad Saturday night inside Allen E. Paulson Stadium.

Georgia Southern and ODU traded unfruitful possessions in the first quarter, as both were held scoreless. The Monarchs got on the board first when a blocked punt set up an eventual 47-yard field goal early in the second quarter. ODU extended the lead 10-0 on a 12-yard scoring reception midway through the quarter.

On their sixth drive, the Eagles finally got moving, and Jalen White capped off a 75-yard drive with a 7-yard touchdown run to cut into the lead. The Eagles evened the score as Michael Lantz drilled a 24-yard field goal late in the third quarter. The field goal was Lantz's 21st make of the season, breaking the school record for most field goals in a season.

ODU took the lead late in the third quarter after a 27-yard reception set up a 30-yard touchdown pass to make it 17-10. Trailing by seven, Davis Brin engineered a big scoring drive, capped off by an 18-yard touchdown pass to Jjay Mcafee with 1:27 left.

The Monarchs quickly marched down the field, and Sanchez was the hero with his leg to secure the win.
