Vickery Tabbed Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week

The junior recorded a gaudy 23 total blocks in two games against Troy

NEW ORLEANS– Volleyball junior middle blocker Megan Vickery was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Vickery, who hadn't started since Sep. 15 and appeared in a game since Oct. 6, immediately stepped up with a huge blocking weekend, recording 23 total blocks in the two-game set at Troy.

On Thursday, she set a new career-best in total blocks with 12 and immediately followed that with 11 denials on Friday.

Her 23 blocks and 2.3 blocks per set far and away led the conference. Only three total teams had more blocks than the Anderson, S.C. native in the entire weekend. Vickery had five more blocks than any other player in the Sun Belt.

Vickery extended her total to 39 blocks on the season, also contributing 12 total kills in the weekend split.

The Eagles head to Foley for the conference tournament, awaiting the winner of the Georgia State - Arkansas State game.
