Marshall Earns Hard-Fought Win Over Georgia Southern

Eagles to salute their seniors next Saturday at home against ODU
Marshall took the opening kickoff 98 yards for an early 7-0 lead. On the next play, Tarian Lee Jr. recorded his first interception, but the Eagles couldn't convert a 38-yard field goal. After a three-and-out from the defense, Khaleb Hood's 38-yard punt return set up a 35-yard field goal from Michael Lantz to get the Eagles on the board. The Herd returned the favor with a short field goal to extend the lead back to seven points late in the first quarter.
Georgia Southern evened the score in the second quarter when Davis Brin completed a 9-yard pass to Jaylon Barden for Barden's first scoring catch as an Eagle. Marshall reclaimed the lead to go up 17-10 with five minutes to go in the half, but a 47-yard scoring reception by Dalen Cobb tied things up.
The Eagles got their second turnover of the half when Davion Rhodes forced a fumble on a sack that was recovered by Isaac Walker, his fourth of the year. That led to a 38-yard field goal from Lantz to give the Eagles their first lead of the game with 12 seconds left in the half.
Lantz connected from 40 yards out with 6:51 left in the third quarter to extend the lead. A big pass play from Marshall led to a 2-yard touchdown run by Rasheen Ali to give the Herd the lead back at 24-23. Lantz's fourth field goal of the game, this time from 21 yards, made it 26-24 in favor of the Eagles. After a hold by Marshall, Ali took the snap and took it 55 yards for the score to put the Herd back in front for good.
