Jalen White Honored By Sun Belt Conference

Running back named offensive player of the week

NEW ORLEANS - Georgia Southern senior running back Jalen White was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance Saturday against ULM. It marks the first honor for the Alabama native, who set a career high for rushing yards.

Offensive Player of the Week - Jalen White, Georgia Southern
Jalen White put the Eagle offense on his back as he helped lead Georgia Southern to a 38-28 conference win over ULM. The senior carried the ball 26 times for a career-high 164 yards and two scores, averaging 6.3 yards per carry. He also had three catches for 13 yards. It was his second 100-yard game of the season and seventh of his career.

Defensive Player of the Week - Jalen Green, James Madison
Jalen Green, who was named CFN National Defensive Player of the Week, tied a JMU single-game record with 5.0 sacks (all solo) in JMU's 20-9 win at Marshall for the team's first win ever vs. the Thundering Herd. He also set a new career high with 5.5 tackles for loss. Green, who leads the country in sacks (13) and TFL (18), registered the most sacks in a game in all of FBS in nearly three years and the first five-sack performance for the Sun Belt since 2014. JMU's defense didn't concede a point to Marshall, as its only points occurred via a safety and a kickoff return. The Dukes held MU to 169 total yards, including -4 rushing due in large to 15.0 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks, it's highest sack total in a decade.

Special Teams Player of the Week - Ryan Hanson, James Madison
Ryan Hanson, who was named CFN National Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, had a career night on special teams, as all seven of his punts pinned Marshall inside the 20 in JMU's 20-9 win Thursday night in Huntington. Averaging 40.4 yards per punt on his seven attempts, six of his seven were inside the 10 and three were downed at the one. The best starting field position for Marshall after a Hanson punt was its own 11. The seven I-20 punts set a new career high for Hanson. Field position played a key factor in the win, as the defense didn't allow an offensive touchdown and Marshall's average starting field position was its own 16 for the entire game, including the 8 in the first half.

Georgia Southern (5-2, 2-1 SBC) will host Georgia State (6-1, 3-1 SBC) on Thursday night in a key SBC East Division matchup on ESPN2. Tickets for the final two home games may be purchased as GSEagles.com/Tickets.
