
Ben Carr Named to Haskins Award Preseason Watch List

The fifth-year Eagle was the runner-up at the U.S. Am in August.
COLUMBUS, Ga. – Georgia Southern men's golf fifth-year senior Ben Carr has been named to the Haskins Award presented by Stifel Preseason Watch List, it was announced today by Golfweek and on the GOLF Channel.
Created by the Haskins Commission, the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel is given to the "Most Outstanding Collegiate Golfer of the Year." Known as the "Heisman of Golf," the Haskins Award has been named in honor of Fred Haskins, who dedicated his career as Head Professional at the Country Club of Columbus in teaching junior golfers the art of competitive golf.
A 2021-22 PING All-America Honorable Mention and all-region selection, Carr finished the season ranked second in the Sun Belt in scoring average (70.81) and ranked 82nd nationally by Golfstat. He placed in the top-8 in nine of 12 events he played, including five top-5s and a victory at the Bank of Tennessee Collegiate, and shot par or better in 25 rounds, including 16 in the 60s. Carr was the runner-up in the 122nd playing of the U.S. Amateur in August, earning an exemption to the 2023 US Open and a likely invitation to the 2023 Masters.
Coming off its 16th NCAA Championship Finals appearance, Georgia Southern returns 10 lettermen to the 2022-23 roster, including all five Eagles who played in the lineup in the NCAA Regionals and Finals. The Eagles open the season at the Fighting Irish Classic at Warren Golf Course Sept. 4-5.

Celebrating its 53rd year, the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel has been given to players who have captured 33 major championships and more than 400 professional tournaments around the world. Past recipients include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ben Crenshaw and Justin Thomas. Chris Gotterup (Oklahoma) won the 52nd Haskins Award in 2022. The Fred Haskins Award is the oldest individual college golf award and the only award to be voted on by players, coaches, golf SID's, and select golf media.
