Fans To Vote on 40th Anniversary Team

First grouping opens on Aug. 1
STATESBORO - As Georgia Southern begins its 40th year of Modern Football, the EFAA and the Department of Athletics have partnered up to let fans vote on the 40-Year Team. Each week, fans will have a few days to vote on their choices on multiple positions with the full team being announced on Sept. 2, the night before the season opener against Morgan State.
The first poll will open at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1 and that poll closes at 11:59 PM (ET) on Thursday, Aug. 4. Fans may only vote once.
Here is the schedule for the voting:
Aug. 1-4: Offensive Line and Defensive Line (LINK TO VOTE)
Aug. 8-11: Specialists and Slot Backs (LINK TO VOTE)
Aug. 15-18: Wide Receivers and Defensive Backs (LINK TO VOTE)
Aug. 22-15: Running Backs and Linebackers (LINK TO VOTE)
Aug. 29-Sept. 1: Quarterbacks (LINK TO VOTE)
To be eligible, a player had to have finished his eligibility at GS, or have graduated before transferring to another school. All players on the ballot were one of the following:
• On the GS Athletics Hall of Fame Ballot
• An all-conference (1st/2nd/3rd Team) selection or conference award honoree
• An All-American
• A member of the GS Athletics Hall of Fame
• A national National Award Winner
• An NFL Player
• An NFL Draft Pick
• Has their number retired
The EFAA approved the initial list and had the discretion to adjust the nominations. Fans will have the vote in determining the actual team.
