Women’s Golf Sits in Seventh at NCAA Tallahassee Regional

Abby Newton is tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Abby Newton shot an even-par 72, and the Georgia Southern women's golf team is in seventh after 18 holes of the NCAA Championship Tallahassee Regional Monday at Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
Tenth-ranked UCLA (E) leads the tournament, followed by host school and 16th-ranked Florida State (+2), and Mississippi State (+3) is third. The Eagles (+12) are one stroke behind Miami (+11), No. 3 South Carolina and Quinnipiac, who are in a three-way tie for fourth.
The top four teams and the top two individuals not on those teams from each of the six regionals will advance to the finals, which will be played May 20-25 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Tallahassee Regional field features nine teams ranked nationally in the top-50, according to Golfstat.
Newton is tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard, and Mia Kness shot 74 and is tied for 15th. Newton made five birdies, including three in a row on holes 4-6 and shot even on the front 9, which was the second side for the Eagles today. Kness played the front 9 even with birdies on 2 and 4 and wound up shooting 1-under on her final 16 holes of the day.
Madison Heideman shot 76 after making par on her final four holes and shooting 1-over on the front, while Sarunchana Rattanasin played her final five holes 2-under with birdies on holes 6 and 7 to finish with a 78.
