Ranked 49th in the country by Golfstat, Georgia Southern earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship, its 27th appearance. The Eagles will play in the New Haven Regional with North Carolina, Texas Tech, Wake Forest, Illinois, NC State, Charlotte, North Florida, Mississippi State, Virginia, UCF, Seton Hall, Yale and Sacred Heart. The top five teams and the top individual not on those teams from each of the six regionals will advance to the finals, which will be played May 27-June 1 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
This is Georgia Southern's 10th appearance in the last 13 NCAA Championships. The Eagles finished eighth in the Tallahassee Regional last year. Georgia Southern won the SoCon Tournament in 2011 and 2014, the Sun Belt Tournament in 2015 and 2021 and received at-large bids in 2009, 2010, 2013, 2017, 2019 and 2022. Georgia Southern made six consecutive NCAA Championship appearances from 2001-06 and has earned a bid to the last three.
This is the Eagles' fifth appearance in the NCAA Championships under head coach Carter Collins and the 10th in Collins' 15 seasons on the coaching staff.
Georgia Southern is one of 42 schools in the country and seven from non-power 5 conferences to have both its men's and women's golf programs earn a bid to NCAA Regionals.
This will be Georgia Southern's second time playing in an NCAA Regional in New Haven. The Eagles finished 15th there in 2004.
The Eagles have three team titles on their resume and have finished in the top-5 six times this season, including six of their last seven events.
Three Eagles were named to the All-Sun Belt Team. Ben Carr and Mason Williams were named first-team All-Sun Belt, while Wilson Andress was named third-team all-conference. Carr earned second-team honors in 2019 and first-team kudos last season, and Williams was named second-team All-Sun Belt last season.
Carr played in the NCAA Regional in 2019 (T33) and in 2021 (T14). Williams (T43) and Luke Dasher (T56) played in the Tallahassee Regional last season.
Georgia Southern has used the same lineup in all six events this spring, and that will continue this week. Carr makes his 40th career start in the lineup, Williams makes his 31st and Wilson Andress will make his 24th appearance in the lineup. Hogan Ingram makes his 11th start, and Baker will be in the lineup for the eighth time. Dasher will serves as the sub.
