STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern football squad went through its second spring scrimmage Saturday at Allen E. Paulson Stadium, one that featured five touchdown passes from the offense and four sacks and an interception from the defense.
Darius Lewis got the scoring started with a 75-yard touchdown catch and run from
Connor Cigelske as he finished with over 100 yards receiving for the day. The tight ends caught three touchdown passes on the day, two from
Ethan Dirrim and one from
Evan Lester.
Derwin Burgess Jr. also had a touchdown catch.
Kyle Vantrease threw for over 230 yards with three touchdowns while Cigelske tallied over 130 yards and two scores.
On defense, freshman
Ashton Whitner picked off a pass early on and
Amaru Herring,
Quincy Darnell,
Dillon Springer and
LJ McCloud all had sacks.
Alex Raynor,
Bryce Christensen and
Britton Williams all made 47-yard field goals and
Anthony Beck II had a 50-yard punt.
The team is scheduled to wrap up its spring session next week with its final three practices, culminating with the annual Blue vs. White Spring Game presented by Morris Bank and Southern Exchange on Saturday, April 23 at noon. Admission is free and the scrimmage will also be broadcast on ESPN+.
