NORMAN, Okla. – Georgia Southern's
Ben Carr and
Mason Williams have moved into the top-25 in the latest Arnold Palmer Cup Rankings for the 2022 event at Golf Club de Genève in Switzerland.
Carr is ranked 19th and Williams is 20th. The top six golfers from the final ranking in the spring from both the United States and International men and women - 12 total golfers - will be among the 24 individuals selected to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup July 1-3. The remaining six spots for the United States will consist of five committee picks, including at least one non-Division I golfer, and a coaches pick.Â
Using Golfstat's NCAA Player Ranking as a base, the Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking awards bonus points for wins and high finishes and a penalty for poor finishes. The ranking also contains a strength of schedule component. The teams will be announced April 19.
A two-time Sun Belt Golfer of the Week, Carr is currently ranked 50th nationally by Golfstat and has placed in the top-8 in eight of nine events he has played in this season, including four top-5s and a victory at the Bank of Tennessee Collegiate. The senior leads the Sun Belt Conference in scoring average (69.96) and has shot par or better in 22 rounds, including 15 in the 60s.
Williams is ranked 51st nationally by Golfstat and has four top-10s in six events to his credit this season with a win in the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate. The senior has shot par or better in 12 of 18 rounds and ranks third in the Sun Belt in scoring average (71.00).
The Eagles return to action at the Sun Belt Championships April 24-27 at Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Arkansas.
