The 10th Annual Colleton River Collegiate Tournament returns to Colleton River Club March 7-8 as a charitable event with proceeds benefiting the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry.
Georgia Southern plays in the tournament for the third consecutive time, and this season, it will be on the award-winning Jack Nicklaus Golf Course. The Eagles won the event in 2020 and tied for 7th in 2019. Ben Carr and Mason Williams both competed in the tournament in 2020 and tied for third.
Georgia Southern is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Gator Invitational in the Eagles' opening team competition of the spring Feb. 13. Carr shot a 66 in his final round and tied for eighth, Wilson Andress tied for 19th and Williams tied for 24th. It was Georgia Southern's best finish at the Gator Invitational since the 1979-80 team won it, and this year's field featured six teams in the top-50 in the country.
Three seniors and two freshmen will comprise the lineup this week for the second consecutive competition. Carr makes his 35th career start in the lineup, Williams makes his 26th and Andress will make his 19th appearance in the lineup. Hogan Ingram makes his sixth start and Brantley Baker will be in the lineup for the third time.
Following the trip to Bluffton, GS hosts the 42nd Schenkel Invitational, one of the premiere events and longest running tournaments in college golf, March 18-20 at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro.
