The Georgia Southern men's golf program, the Schenkel Invitational Committee and Forest Heights Country Club host the 42nd playing of the Schenkel Invitational this weekend at Forest Heights in Statesboro.
Admission is free, and spectators are welcome.
The Eagles have won their home tournament twice with the last victory coming in 2019, and Georgia Southern is the only team in this year's field that has won the event. Kentucky has seven top-5 finishes, and UAB has three. Notre Dame took third in 2019 while Furman (3rd) and FGCU (4th) finished in the top-5 last season.
Kentucky makes its 22nd appearance, the most of any team in the field except for the host Eagles, and the Wildcats have played in the last 15. Furman plays in its 11th Schenkel and UAB is in its 10th. West Virginia and Wisconsin are making their first appearance, while Campbell (12th), Cincinnati (11th) and FGCU are playing in their second consecutive Schenkel. Middle Tennessee (7th) and College of Charleston (9th) also competed in the event last season. The 15-team field is the largest in the tournament since 2015.
Georgia Southern is coming off a win at the Colleton River Collegiate March 8. All five Eagles placed in the top-25, led by Ben Carr, who tied for fourth. Mason Williams tied for ninth and Hogan Ingram finished 14th, Brantley Baker tied for 18th and Wilson Andress tied for 23rd. Georgia Southern led the field in birdies with 65 as well as par-3 scoring and par-4 scoring.
The three seniors and two freshmen will comprise the lineup this week for the third consecutive competition. Carr makes his 36th career start in the lineup, Williams makes his 27th and Andress will make his 20th appearance in the lineup. Ingram makes his seventh start and Baker will be in the lineup for the fourth time. The Eagles tee off the first hole at 9 a.m. Friday and are paired with Notre Dame and Kentucky.
Following the weekend, GS is scheduled to compete in The Hayt March 28-29 at Sawgrass Country Club.
