Preparation continues for Tuesday's game
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Georgia Southern football was back to business on Saturday with the Camellia Bowl just three days away. The day included a tour of the Rosa Parks Museum, bowling at Bama Lanes, the wives and kids going to the local zoo, as well as their first practice in Montgomery.
After breakfast, the players made a short trip over to the Rosa Parks Museum, an active memorial to the life of the civil rights icon and the lessons of the Montgomery Bus Boycott that brought racial integration to transportation and international attention to civil rights. Located in downtown Montgomery at the site where Mrs. Parks was arrested, it is the nation's only museum dedicated to Rosa Parks.
While the players had their tour of the Rosa Parks Museum, Coach Clay Helton, along with coordinators Bryan Ellis and Will Harris had a Zoom call with the ESPN and Bowl Season Radio announcers to help them prep for Tuesday's game. Also, the wives and kids got to spend a few hours at the Montgomery Zoo.
After a lunch at the hotel, all of the regular team and position meetings took place before the entire squad headed to Cramton Bowl for a regular Wednesday practice. The last time the Eagles played in the Camellia Bowl, they practiced at Huntingdon College, but that site is undergoing some renovations and the team gets to practice on the game field all week. It was a brutally cold day as the high barely reached 30 degrees, but the temperatures won't be a whole lot warmer on Tuesday for the game, so it was a good chance to get acclimated to what is to come.
Once practice ended, the team got a chance to go to Bama Lanes in Montgomery for a fun night of bowling with their teammates. The team then returned to the hotel for the evening with a curfew of midnight.
Sunday is Christmas, which will be a little odd for the party spending it in a hotel, but there's still a game to prepare for. The schedule of events includes an afternoon practice before a BBQ dinner event at Dreamland BBQ.
The Camellia Bowl will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. (CT)/noon (ET) on ESPN. Tickets remain on sale through GSEagles.com/Bowl.
