HUNTINGTON, W. Va.
- Georgia Southern women's soccer picked up its second road Sun Belt win of the season by knocking off Marshall, 2-0, on Thursday evening in the first meeting between the two teams as new conference rivals.

The Eagles (3-3-5, 2-1-2 SBC) also notched their fourth shutout win of the season in the victory over the Thundering Herd (2-7-3, 1-3-1 SBC) in the first meeting between the two teams since 2007. Georgia Southern returns to action on Sunday, hosting Appalachian State in a 1 p.m. contest at Eagle Field. It will be Senior Day for the Eagles.

Georgia Southern outshot Marshall by a slim 7-6 margin in the first half as both teams had excellent chances. Junior Simone Timm had three shots in the match's first five minutes, twice forcing saves, while the Eagles cleared a shot off the line in the 31st minute and Marshall's Makai Laguines hit the crossbar in the 41st minute.

The Eagles took the lead in the 80th minute as freshman Emma Armstrong tallied her second goal of the season, off of an assist by senior Isabel Kopp, that made the score 1-0.

Marshall pushed for the equalizer, getting a shot by the Sun Belt's leading scorer, Morgan White, in the 88th minute but freshman Katie Oakley made the save.

Redshirt sophomore Elis Nemtsov then clinched the match with her second goal of the season with just 33 seconds left on the clock.

Marshall finished the evening with a 13-12 edge in shots and a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Oakley made four saves in net in recording her second shutout of the year, while Alexis Wolgemuth made two saves for the Herd. Marshall held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks and the Herd were whistled for six fouls and three offsides, while the Eagles were whistled for five fouls and also three offsides.

"I was pleased with our fight," Coach Adams said. "Our determination to do a little extra led to us getting this important win on the road. We notched three very important points away from home and and now we will have to recover fast to get ready for Sunday and Appalachian State."
