The Eagles ran on this year’s NCAA Championship Course.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Freshmen Katie Ranck and Ella Zierdt paced the Georgia Southern cross country team as the Eagles ran in the Florida State Open at Apalachee Regional Park, the site of this season's NCAA Championship, Friday morning.
Three top-20 teams competed in the 6000-meter race, led by BYU, which placed first. Host Florida State was second, and Stanford came in fifth. All six Eagles were competing in their first collegiate 6K, and GS finished 25th.
Quotables from coach Kelly Carter
"Today was a great day of competition for our cross country team and a valuable learning experience for our young Eagles. Our student-athletes got a chance to run against some of the best athletes in the nation and get a taste of what it would be like to compete on a championship course. Many of them had not run in a 6000-meter race, so it was an excellent experience for us and a good barometer to see where we are."
Results
132 - Katie Ranck - 23:59.6
170 - Ella Zierdt - 24:40.2
195 - Isabel Ptacek - 25:13.6
201 - Reese Connelly - 25:22.2
249 - Isabel Clayton - 27:12.3
265 - Melanie Tribick - 28:17.3
